David Benderman

Our goal with Brick City is to shine a light on local riders, artists and shops that help us keep our rides running and looking nice. David told me he wasn’t an artist. His work says otherwise. Help us support local business. This guy is a great example of hard work and expert craftsmanship. We’re excited to share his story with our friends.

Name: David Benderman

Years in Ocala: 15

Specialty: Motorcycle Reconditioning Specialist, Glass Coating Applicator.

Is there a project that you’ve worked on that you’re the proudest of?

I am most proud of “The Copper Head” Indian that was displayed at Daytona Bike Week 2015. I was able to detail and apply a Kenzo coating. The bike’s owner Lyle Kramper, who is the GM from RideNow and Indian, was nice enough to let me perform my craft. I would actually love to do one of the many Dirtybird Customs, John Shope Show Bikes.

What sets you apart from your competition?

Passion and the willingness to keep learning. Knowledge, product and tools also plays a huge role.

Is there a project that you’ve wanted to start but haven’t?

Yeah. A Pagani. One of John Travolta’s collection would be pretty cool.

What shops do you work with now?

I do subcontracting work for RideNow Power sports and Indian Motorcycles in Ocala. Currently I’m mobile, waiting for the right time next year to purchase a building for my business and craft.

What is the average turnaround time on a project?

Depending on services, I can take an hour and a half for a stage 1 detail (mini detail) or I can take 72 hours + on wet sanding, polishing, disassembly and reassembly, renewing trim, sanding and polishing metal/wheels/ and glass coat the entire bike.

I’m sure the materials used in your trade are important. What can you tell us about the products
you use every day?

I tend to use ecofriendly products. I like my Shine Supply Products (out of California). Had the pleasure in meeting the owner, and his core passion about this industry is what attracted me the most. They also
have amazing products. As far as coatings, I love my IGL Coatings (igreenlover). Eco friendly and durable. They carry a 1, 2, and 4-year durability coating. Great Gloss Retention and Amazing Hydrophobic properties. It’s sacrificial to protect the original surface, whether it’s on chrome or paint.

You do awesome work. Did you take to this fast or did it take a while to hone your skills?

It has taken me a long time to get there. Always learning. Now, new technology, tools and methods are always coming up. At times, it can get overwhelming. I stick to what I know. I know what works best for me and my clients.
